Get Ready for Birth
The way we understand birth is often shaped by the culture we grew up in. Although you're ususally a strong and independent woman, now that you're pregnant you might find yourself anxious and scared about giving birth. The uncertainty is driving you crazy. How can you prepare for something that is so out of your control?
From anxiety to anticipation
Anxiety and fear will not disappear if we simply ignore or suppress these emotions. Actually, the opposite holds true. As a somatic bodyworker I believe in the wisdom of our body. If we don't let our emotions come out, they get stuck and manifest in the body. ​Muscle tension, pain and stiffness are the result. Our body is screaming for help.

If we slow down and listen to what our body wants to say, we can befriend our body, rather than fight against it. Connection is the best antidote against anxiety. Connection with your is essential a hold space for all our own emotions, even the ones that we normally consider not so pleasant. They are our signposts, guiding our attention to where it is most needed.
As an experienced birth doula and somatic massage therapist I have witnessed many times how fear shows up in the body during birth.
